Benelux Secretary General Frans Weekers kicked off the first meeting of the Sustainable Aviation Working Group, bringing together the relevant government departments from the Benelux countries and North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim of this collaboration is to develop a common approach to making the aviation sector more sustainable. According to Frans Weekers, this offers numerous opportunities in terms of reducing emissions and developing quieter aviation.
At the meeting, the latest political developments in the field of sustainable aviation were discussed and shared. The ambitions are high: the working group aims to develop a long-term vision and to become a leader within the European Union in this field. The countries and regions involved are calling for more intensive research and collaboration, with an important role for economic players in the sector.
The working group, resulting from the Benelux 2025 annual plan, will meet several times a year to make progress and take concrete measures. The initiative underlines the importance of structural collaboration between governments and other stakeholders to achieve a more sustainable future for aviation.
With this working group, the Benelux countries and North Rhine-Westphalia are positioning themselves as pioneers in the transition to climate-friendly and innovative aviation.
