Benelux Ombudsmen meet again at the Benelux Secretariat-General

21 Sep. 2026

The Ombudsmen of the Benelux met on 21 September 2026 for their second meeting at the Benelux Union Secretariat-General in Brussels. The meeting was opened by Liesje Schreinemacher, Deputy Secretary-General of the Benelux Union.

The Secretariat-General acted as host and attended the proceedings as an observer. In doing so, it once again supported cooperation and knowledge-sharing between the ombuds institutions of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

During the meeting, participants exchanged views on several current topics related to their mandate, including the right to make mistakes in dealings with public authorities, the protection of the rights of children and young people, future developments in the field of social security, and the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of cross-border cooperation among the Benelux ombudsmen. By sharing experiences and best practices, they strengthen their work in the service of citizens across the three Benelux countries.
