Under Luxembourg’s presidency, the 7th edition of the Interdisciplinary Forum on Digital Inclusion took place at the European Convention Center Luxembourg. The event was organized by the Ministry of Digitalization with the support of the Benelux General Secretariat.
Nearly 150 representatives from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg discussed two major challenges: combating disinformation and achieving the EU’s Digital Decade objectives by 2030.
Professor Dr. Gabriele Lenzini (University of Luxembourg) opened the forum with a keynote on the mechanisms behind disinformation and strategies to counter it. This was followed by a roundtable where national measures and best practices were shared, emphasizing the need for closer cooperation.
In the second part, the three countries presented their action plans for the Digital Decade, focusing on infrastructure, digital skills, and public digital services. Jean-Claude Meyer, Deputy Secretary-General of the Benelux Union, stressed “the crucial importance of cross-border cooperation to address digital and societal challenges” and reminded that “Benelux serves as a laboratory for regional integration and a driver of innovation.” Luxembourg’s Minister Stéphanie Obertin reaffirmed the country’s commitment to an inclusive digital future and announced the upcoming publication of the second national action plan.
The forum highlighted the shared ambition of the Benelux to strengthen digital inclusion and tackle disinformation, reaffirming its role as a key driver of regional cooperation.
